What does a “I Support Long Lake Firefighters” yard sign stand for?
1. Keeping this group of firefighters TOGETHER, is best for public safety.
2. Ensuring that firefighters who want to continue to serve, will be able to do so in a similar capacity that they are serving today.
3. Allowing each firefighter to maintain their years of service and the benefits they have earned for their service to this community, regardless of ownership.
4. Showing the firefighters that this community has their backs, because we know they've got ours.

The future of the Long Lake Fire Department is in limbo, but an educated group of citizens - YOU - can bring the heat and honor our Firefighters.

We are a coalition of citizens hopeful for a solution that moves towards strengthening the high-functioning, well-respected public safety asset that has proudly served this community for 100+ years — Long Lake Fire Department — and away from burning down a valued and trusted institution and department to start from scratch.

Hot Button Issues

Taxes

Minnesota ranks 48th in the country for fire service spending. We know taxes will need to increase to maintain and improve fire service. However, a wide range of options are being discussed that will hit your pocketbook differently.

Quality of Service

All parties participating in the current fire negotiations agree on one thing: the citizens of Long Lake, Orono, Minnetonka Beach and Medina are receiving top-notch service from the existing team. We want to maintain and grow this highly trained, cohesive, responsive crew.

Respect for Service

There are approximately 335 years of volunteer service currently in the department. We want to ensure they continue to serve together and maintain their years of service and pensions.

They show up for us, and now it’s our turn to show up for them.

Community Input

Residents have been calling for more transparency and more information on how tax dollars are spent. It is important to have the information so you can ask the right questions of your Council members so they can reach a fiscally responsible solution that improves fire service.

Our #1 priority has been moving towards a public safety-first solution that is
fiscally responsible and includes the voices of the residents it serves.

Since day one of this process, the Long Lake firefighters have wanted to keep the department together

They show up for us; let’s show up for them. Order a yard sign to show your support for the Long Lake Firefighters.

Any additional dollars raised will be donated to the firefighters.

Many of the changes that are currently being proposed will irrevocably change the existing department and could drastically impact tax-payer pocketbooks.

These pages will help you understand the issue and give you some resources to bring the heat.
